hen we opened Bob's Mission Surf in 1993, our goal was to have a surf shop like the kind we all grew up with in the 60's. Those shops were a fun place to hang out, see new products and check out the coolest surfboards in town. We wanted to be able to offer services and expert assistance to the seasoned surfers as well as those who were just getting their feet wet.

Today, our shop reflects not only those goals but also embraces the values and traditions of those long ago years when the surf shop was the hub of the surfing community.

After over 20 years in the construction industry, Bob and Sue opened BMS with the help of family and friends. Our children, Kelly and Andrew, both grew up through the shop and have both found surfing to be parts of their adult lives. Kelly worked over 5 years at Surfing and Longboard Magazines in their production departments. Today she is Marketing Coordinator at Kashi Foods. Andrew became the head surf instructor and lead camp counselor at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center for San Diego State University. He received his teaching credential from SDSU in 2007 and will be entering the education field, teaching first through fifth grades.

We have grown over the years from offering just a few models of surfboards and accessories to becoming the authorized dealer in Pacific Beach, for such world renown manufactures as Bing, Jacobs, Gordon and Smith, Walden and Takayama. We have been the local body board source with industry leaders such as Custom X, Mike Stewart, and Churchill Fins for many years. Now we have entered into an exciting new era with the addition of Stand up Paddle Surfing or Beachboy Style, by becoming the leader in SUP boards and paddles.
