You Might See Whales On A Stand Up Paddle Board
This is not something most surfers get to see unless they also enjoy getting out on a stand up paddle board as well. This 8X World Paddleboarding champion witnessed the enormous mammals coming up for air not far from his paddleboard while Jamie was being filmed for a new tv show called “Living in Liquid”. Even Jamie had to admit that he was a little stunned when they surfaced so close to his board.
Long before the stand up paddle phenom blew up in San Diego, Jamie Mitchell was already killing it out there and dominating the paddleboarding pack. The Australian has won the Molokai to Oahu race for ten years running. The Molokai to Oahu is a thirty two mile run through the “Channel of Bones” which is one of the most challenging and dangerous channels out there and completing the race is a amazing feat of will and stamina. Jamie has won this competition since 2002 to create a Decade of Dominance. The film also features Kelly Slater, Dave Kalama, Gerry Lopez and Rob Machado. If you are near Newport this weekend, the film premieres at the Newport Beach Festival on Saturday the 28th. It’s showing at the Lido Theatre at 6:15pm
